How should the sample be kept protected if to travel to other side of the planet...?
Or should I just convince the University that it is better to do the analyses in a close-by good laboratory rather than risking to spoil the results?
Their guidelines imposes a preference for soil analyses at the University itself to make use of the expensive facilities... but that is quite constraining.
After taking the soil samples, the sample should be kept under 4 degree Celsius. Better to get analysed in the near by university only

I strongly recommended to do the analysis in the UK if the results are very important and you are planing to publish them in scientific journal. Where you do the analysis is very important for the high ranking journal.
Regarding how to keep the samples without getting spoiled, you have to contact the lab in the UK and ask them as each lab has own protocol and procedure. I have sent fungal sample to ATCC before, and they sent full protocol including how to prepare the sample and how to send it.

Collect the soil samples at field capacity. Put the sample separately in plastic bags and then put these samples in insulated container. Don't dry and freeze the sample.
