How much an electromagnetic flowmeter is sensitive to the bubbles in a water pipeline?
For example if there is a leakage somewhere in the pipeline system where air bubbles are entering the pipes, how much error might occur for the electromagnetic flowmeter?
Dear Morteza,
When bubbles are dispersed in the volume of the electromagnetic flowmeter (EMF), the measurement in this case is considered as two phase flow measurement. There is a famous relation for this case, which has been derived by Bernier and Brennen (1983) that is:
U_tp = U_sp/(1-alpha)
Where:
U_tp: the flowmeter signal due to two-phase flow
U_sp: the flowmeter signal due to single-phase flow
alpha: the void fraction (the volume of bubbles divided by the whole volume of the flowmeter)
Then, you should have information about the void fraction of the bubbles.
The percentage error can be calculated as:
Erorr% = (|U_tp-U_sp|/U_sp)*100%
