I have synthesized graphitic cabon nitride according to literature. However,I am rather confused with the FTIR spectra of the as-prepared carbon nitride. It displayed gradually shifting to higher wavenumber. What information can we get from this phenomenon?
Are the spectra taken on the same specimen but at different times? If yes, then it is clear that something is going on with this sample as time goes by. First guess is some chemical reaction, perhaps with atmospheric gases (oxidation?), or, quite contrary - decomposition. Shifting to higher energies may mean that either the crystal lattice becomes stiffer or the molecular weight decreases (or both).
