I've recently moved to Macau and am starting a new research lab working in this field. I know that several researchers across China work with extremophiles and other relevant aspects but am curious how many groups identify their research as being linked with Astrobiology?

Hi André! Astrobiology is a field that is only more recently gaining traction in China. I know because as a co-chair for the AbGradCon meeting in Japan (now digital), we had the goal of getting more researchers in Asia involved in Astrobiology. There are a few groups and several individuals that are currently interested in the field of Astrobiology in China, but it is not as widely known yet as it is in places like the US or Europe. Japan is in a similar situation, but Japanese colleagues and professors have been investing in Astrobiology for awhile now so it is gaining traction, though still in the phase of investing in the younger generation of scientific researchers.
Several Chinese colleagues of mine are interested in making Astrobiology more well-known and investigated in China. One such colleague is Jihua Hao, who is now currently in China . He might be able to get you more information from his perspective. A colleague of mine who is currently in Japan, Yamei Li, , was organizing a CAS-JSPS bilateral seminar on Astrobiology, Geoelectrochemistry, and Deep Sea Biochemistry (co-hosted by ELSI and the Sanya Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering) with her our colleague Tony Jia . The CAS-JSPS bilateral seminar will now be digital also, but both of them may have some leads to Astrobiology groups they know about in China, though they said it was few.
Of course, if more groups are becoming established as Astrobiology centered, that would also be great news to learn! What I have mentioned has been the experience of myself and our colleagues so far.
