General Circulation Models or Global Climate Models are over 40 when I went through a research article long back. I would like to know how many GCMs are currently in use. Names of them aren't what I'm asking for. It would be supplementary.
The CMIP6 'coupled model intercomparison project' currently features models from 30 institutions. Some institutions publish more than one model, resulting in a total of 97 models. Some of these are essentially the same model, but run at different spatial resolution, or with certain features (like atmospheric chemistry) changed. You can see a list of them on here https://pcmdi.llnl.gov/CMIP6/ArchiveStatistics/esgf_data_holdings/
There may also be some models not included in CMIP6.
There are meny GCM exist currently which you can download from this website (https://esgf-data.dkrz.de/search/cmip5-dkrz/).
To know which model is better for you, you should down load the historical data of some GCM and find the correlation between them and your observed data and choose the best model for your region.
Respected Mostafa Aboelkhear , it is never my intention to download the GCM data. We come across the term ' GCM data' many times but never a clear idea on how many GCMs exist and how many of them are functional. I appreciate the information you've shared.
