How longitude of collection site affect growth of plants that depicts in provenance trial of a species?

If we collect genotypes from series of sites from west to east than what type of patter of growth (Ht, leaf length, diameter etc..) we may get when these are tested for provenance trial in common garden test?

Most of the plant species display more of an upright growth with reduced internodal distance while moving from from west to east.
