I am currently working with low alloy steel in order to achieve EIS (OCP) and Potentiodynamic polarisation values. The value of the potentiable does not stabilise even after an hour of immersion in a beaker containing 10 wt% H2SO4. Thus, a stable OCP value cannot be obtained to run the tests.

The potentiostat was calibrated and tested successfully with dummy cells, the software was also updated.

Would anyone be able to advise me on the potential issues/reasons the system is behaving this way. Could it be the reference electrode (SCE)? or the hardware/software set-up.

The potential was decreasing continuously, reaching below -3V.
