I prepare different molar concentrations of curcumin in DMSO for my experiments. How long can they be stored at -20 degrees centigrade? And how should we thaw them before use : on ice or just let them naturally come at room temperature?
You can virtually store cur curcumin for as long as you want depending on the conditions. As neat liquid Under inert conditions (nitrogen/argon) and low temperatures say in liquid nitrogen (-80 C) you can store it forever although it will be expensive to maintain those conditions
If possible, test solutions should prepared and used on the same day. However, if there is a need to make up stock solutions in advance, storing the solution as aliquots in tightly sealed vials at -20°C is recommended. DMSO solution of curcumin can be stored at -20 degrees centigrade in tightly sealed vials for up to 12 months. Generally, these will be useable for up to one month. Before use and prior to opening the vial allowing the solutions to equilibrate and thaw at room temperature for at least 1 hour is recommended.
