Hi Amir, Have similar studies been conducted for similar settings: Hollywood, Hong Kong? If so, you will have quite a lot of review. It's certain very interesting.

When I'm free, I like to watch Bollywood movies because of the rhythm and the dancing. But I only watch a few minutes, cannot find 2 hours to watch it. Yet I have learnt a few simple words (que etc). My little neighbor can speak Hindustani quite well, through these movies :)

@ Anam, miranda, Mian Javed: The scope will be limitized in methodology. Anam! the concept has its foundation in theory of Gaze, given by Laura in 1975. Then, the radical feminist approach will be adopted to measure the gaze effect on male. The identification and imitation of males (social learning theory) can better be asked by university females. The concept of framing and modelling will also be embed in the study (while making the films by heterosexuals). Am I on right track? Miranda I will definitely go for the study, if you have some material with you. Please guide me.

Quite interesting but narrow down it, because it has 3 broad dimensions so for that you need to concise the topic as well as the theories you are supposes to very large paradigm.

its kind of cliché better to focus on some new area of the same subject like the comparison of Muslim lead female roles with Hindu female lead roles in the context of dressing , social manners, chastity, values.

@ Attia the male gaze concept is n't cultural, I am more specific in female image portrayed by bolloywood: gener role. @ Sajjad I think for PhD the scope must be a little broad

You are going in two different directions. Either go for the content analysis or go for the effects. Than, how will you legitimize a sample of solely university students for this kind of study. You will also be seriously questioned about the significance of Bollywood in the Pakistani context. We all watch bollywood but its considered a no-no in academics.

Interesting discussion, I feel Attia is right, you must limit the portrayal to specific characterization. As for terming it Indian film industry instead of Bollywood, well thats wrong, because Bollywood is the Hindi Film Industry but if you name it Indian film industry then you must include Tamil, Gujarati etc all the industries because they all make up Indian Film Industry.

So I suggest just use Hindi Film industry popularly known as Bollywood.

@ Qurat! the portrayal of females may be creating obsession for 'beauty' in the minds of university students; consequently use of beauty products. The portrayal may be related to beauty industry, If in the males stereotypical gender role is reinforced, the patriarchy may be linked with movies rather than its pre-assumed relation with extremism. Does it make sense in its significance?

However SQ5 -SQ7 jar. They seem to be outside your study, as other posters have hinted above. Drop them for now. I suspect that you only introduced them to hint that you could get handy respondents. Your friends are not random, representative respondents!

Now I wish you to take Q1 to Q4, and add them together to tell us what your real, single Research Question is. This exercise will then point out to you what your new SQ5-SQ7 can be, in order to close the gaps that become visible. Then I desire you to simply (?) rewrite SQ1-SQ7 as sentences (statements, not questions). These are your hypotheses H1-H7. Do the same, simply (?) for your Research Question. This is your thesis-theme! Magic! H1 to H7 possibly become your Chapters 3-10.

I don't know whit is your Main subjuct at PG Level study.

I think that at present at your selected subject can't be accepted for Ph. D.research work. This topic not having depth for Ph.d research. But this topic may be selected for Ph. d researach work as a one topic, if you are having some exmpales of your selected topic, which involve research work.

Pl. select topic for Ph.d research work like 'Bollywood Actresses life style and its impact on life of Pakistani girl students ' ( by comparing with Urban and Rural area, Lower, middle and Higher class,and etc. )

I agree with Dr. Vedashree and Miranda and Ian. I would like to add that the more you verbally discuss your idea with peers and seniors, the more clarity you will get and find the weaknesses in your approach. Discussion is the best way to decide any research area and topic.
