These days one gets a lot of e-mails from journals inviting papers promising fast publication (with review done in 2 weeks to one month time) and publication upon paying some publishing charges. These journals also try to attract authors by advertising that they have a high impact factor. A respected friend pointed out the case of a predatory journal attracting authors by boasting it has an impact factor over 5 after publishing just one volume.
Eminent friends - Kindly help researchers and scientists on how to check the claims of these journals about "impact factors". How is the impact factor calculated for a journal? Where can we check it for authentic information on indexed journals?
I know that Science Citation Index has a list of indexed journals. Scopus also gives impact factor of the journals it is indexing. Any further help is appreciated.
