Papers that are presented in conferences these days are either published as such or in an extended form in peer-reviewed journals. When a paper accepted/presented in a conference is published as a part of a special issue of a peer reviewed journal, should that be considered as a conference publication or journal article? How should they be classified?
The peer review elevates the paper to research paper (research journal) level. This assumes that all conference papers are not automatically published.
Since researchers self-classify papers that they put on ResearchGate, the classification here is rather rough.
How about the cases wherein there is a statement by the journal which states that peer-review is the responsibility of the conference organizer?
If the paper of any sort was peer reviewed, then there should at least be a statement of who was on the editorial board. If this list is genuine, you should be able to trust that the paper was peer-reviewed.
The names of the referees are never divulged, and they may even be appointed on an ad hoc basis, and you won't be able to get a list of them.
Then, I guess, presently the classification rests with the author who chooses whether to put in the article as a conference paper or journal article. Thank you Dr. Kennedy for your insights.
