Intraspecific competition and allelopathy can be common negative points for designing agroforestry systems (I am referring to alley cropping). Are there any studies that have explored the possible differences of alley cropping systems that employ multiple plant species?

Thank you all for your answers and more importantly for sharing valuable references. I am working in central America and wonder whether there are studies about trees diversity in alley cropping systems from countries such as: Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama.
Alley cropping diversifies farm enterprises by Providing short-term cash flow from annual Crops while also providing medium- to long-term products from the woody components.
