Green infrastructure has been getting so much importance these days because people started to appreciate the value of green space and the value it adds to the water resources planning. Green infrastructure like bioswale, pervious pavements, wetlands, green traffic island, open green space all have so much impact to reduce urban flooding, augment groundwater supply by filtering rainwater and improve aesthetics of the city for various recreational activities. What would be a better choice where we solve water resources problem and make the city greener and brighter. Please comment!

Green infrastructure or green areas go far beyond the aesthetics in any given milieu. Apart from the roles you've mentioned in terms of ensuring reduction in urban flooding and augmentation in groundwater supply, there is also the pivotal role they play in greenhouse and ozone layer studies.
There has been serious emphasis lately on vegetative approaches to solving environmental problems. We have just concluded some studies on the use of pervious concrete in some of our green areas and city walkways. The way forward is to insist on these vegetative approaches , and discourage the use of impervious concrete where there are healthy alternatives. Grassed waterways, reno mattresses etc are both aesthetic, environmental friendly and vegetative

Thanks for the papers, Dr. Nanco Dolman. It is interesting that the word "blue" has been added with the term green infrastructure. Many cities in the US are promoting green infrastructure for various reasons. In some places, GI method has been used for flood control and in some places in the semi arid regions, GI has been used to augment the groundwater sources. Many large cities are finding it difficult to implement this concept due to available land shortages. Good discussion!
Yes, it is a good discussion on green and blue infrastructure. Just I would like to know more that on what percentage will be going to implement this eco-friendly infrastructure development. Is there any awareness creation is happening now a days. Only for the research purpose it is okay, however actual implementation should be happened with the high initial cost/cost benefit analysis basis.
