Pakistan is growing a number of important crops such as rice, sugarcane, cotton, maize, moong, mash, bajra and jowar. Being a major cash crop of Pakistan, cotton is considered the backbone of the economy which contributes about 0.8 percent to GDP and 4.1 percent of total value addition in agriculture. Moreover, the irrigation system of Pakistan belongs to one of the world's largest systems to support agricultural production.
