Hi, just wondering if anyone can please tell me how you calculate the PSDI and PST global indices of distress (from the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised by Leonard Derogatis, 1994) in SPSS?

Scoring: Items scored 0-4, higher scores indicate greater distress. Subscale scores are means of their respective item scores.

I would use the MEAN.n() function to compute the means for the various sub-scales. The .n on Mean.n is the number of valid values that you require in order to return a mean. E.g., I found another page that suggests the Anger-Hostility scale is the mean of items 11, 24, 63, 67, 74, and 81. If I wished to compute that mean only if no more than two items are missing (in other words, if there are at least 6 valid items), I would do this:
COMPUTE AHmean = MEAN.6(item11, item24, item63, item67, item74, item81).
You'll have to replace the variable names with your own, of course.
