I try to develop an ABAQUS Explicit simulation of CNC Milling operation to analyze the behaviour of tool and workpiece. (Ex: temperature distribution, stress). When the simulation is running, once the tool engages with the workpiece and then damage occurs on the workpiece (Figure 01). But as in figure 02, I can not see any motion like chips out of the piece. How to generate that kind of thing in the simulation. Any guidance?
Note: State variable activated in the field output, Element deletion assigned and Johnson Cook damage parameters also introduced.

I did a similar simulation but in 2D but currenlty i am working toward something close to figure 2 in 3D.
I would suggest the following.
Create partitions on your workpiece, so each volumetric partition represents a portion of the workpiece.
Then say you have three Partition .
Partition # 1 the expected chip area
Partition # 2 a small area between the chip area and the rest of the workpiece
Partition #3 is the rest of the chip area.
Then for Partitions' #1 & #3 make sure the "ELEMENT DELETION" option is off
For Partition #2 make sure the "ELEMENT DELETION" option is ON

It may related with your damage parameters. Maybe your damage parameter is too small. My suggestion is adjust the damage parameter or decrease the mesh size near the cutting area.

I think you mistaken the conversion of the Median density unit

I have been facing the same problem. However, from a research paper I found out that you will need to use a very fine mesh ( 1 x 10 -6 ) with a low stable increment time.
