It seems that our progress in standard of living in the last 500 or so years is mainly connected with different forms of energy conversion and discovery of newer materials for that purpose. So, how the fundamental science projects of today (e.g. detection of gravity waves, neutrino observatory, etc.) are going to contribute to that single point program? Is this a premature question?
