To all the experts in steam turbines,

I have a technical question regarding tandem compound steam turbines, especially used in the nuclear steam cycle.

It is known that the large size PWRs (1000MW order) adopt a single-shaft steam turbine configuration for both high and pressure turbines in series.

Considering part-load operation for the steam cycle, would it be possible to operate at lower load by bypassing only one of the steam turbine inlets to reduce the load?

The primary concern here is whether it would be mechanically possible (especially related to torsional stress) and operationally possible (allowable w.r.t. safety).

Thank you all in advance for your expertise and time.
