It has been know that the rice field contributes to the significant amount of methane emission to the atmoshere. So, I wonder how far we have reached in the development of drought tolerant rice and is it possible to combat the methane challenge in addition to the drougnt stress?
The methan may be fatal for the crop of drought tolerant rice. Do not you think that wheat is good alternative to drought tolerant rice?

Upland rice with extreme drought tolerance and blast resistance might be the solution. I think IRRI, CIRAD is working towards it.
