Hello Kapia,

Gene silencing in plants can occur by a number of methods, but the most interesting one is due to the effect of miRNAs.

miRNAs can get transferred from viruses and silent certain genes. We have recently published a hypothesis based on inter-specific transfer and the role of miRNAs.
