Method 1 : As discrete points :

plot3(x,y,z, 'bx')

xlabel('x'); ylabel('y'); zlabel('z');

view(-30,25)

Method 2 : As a surface

patch(x,y,z);

xlabel('x'); ylabel('y'); zlabel('z');

view(-10,60)

You can use "contourf" to do your 3D drawing as follows: put your three vectors in one vector seperated by semicolon:

w= [x-values; y-values; z-values];

for example:

x=[5 6 7 8 9];

y=[9 7 5 4 2];

z=[2 4 6 8 10];

w= [5 6 7 8 9; 9 7 5 4 2; 2 4 6 8 10];

There are different commands:

plot3(X,Y,Z), surf(X,Y,Z), scatter3(X,Y,Z), ...

To draw the 3D plot using surf(x,y,z), z must be a matrix, not a scalar or vector.

Would you please educate me how I can convert the vector z to matrix form?

If your actual data is an array not a matrix, then no need to go for surf plot. surf is meant for plotting a data matrix with certain x and y values.

e.g. see this code:

[X,Y] = meshgrid(-2:.2:2, -4:.4:4);

Z = X .* exp(-X.^2 - Y.^2);

surf(X,Y,Z)

If may go with the scatter3 or plot3

How to make a 3D surface plot for the following data,i.e.,

x= [0, 4 ,5, 6 ,7]

y=[9, 8, 99, 76, 187]

z=[87, 89, 76, 33, 12]

Note that there is no explicit relation between any of the three variables: x, y, and z. I know that in MATLAB, we can use the surf function but it's only possible if z=f(x,y) which is not the case here . Please respond what to do. Thanks.

The matlab function plot3 or scatter3 would work fine in this case.

Use plot3(x,y,z) or scatter3(x,y,z)

Best

scatter3, plot3,surf and mesh is command for 3d figure in matlab.

but for your case i think scatter3 is more suitable.
