Course evaluations can be subjective depending on the grades students receive in the course. I always respond to my course evaluations in bringing balance to what is reported to my Dean and Director. How does your University treat with your course evaluations? Are these ever compared with the actual course grades? Are you required to comment on these either in writing or in person at a meeting? Do these course evaluations matter in your overall performance and if so, have you ever contested these? Your feedback is much appreciated.

Course evaluations, in my mind, have a relative evaluations because they depend also on the "fame" of the teacher in terms of more or less generosity with marks! However, overall, there are some variables very meaningful and interesting, with important and useful information..
Yes...it does. Student course evaluation is one of the components considered for performance appraisal in our university too. Students fill up the questionnaire before their final assessment. I have observed variations in student responses and more or less we could predict the score in each semester. These variations in scoring makes this evaluation less objective. Hence, Instead of considering the score from one semester, we need to average them from multiple semesters to relate it to faculty performance.
Though student course evaluation is not completely objective, I strongly support it as one of the indicators of faculty performance.....coz we need to listen to what our primary stakeholders say.
At our university, students cannot get their marks in given courses unless they fill & send online evaluations of the teachers of these courses.
From a scale out of 5, the students have given me 4 to 5 in nearly all the semesters . I have never attempted to buy the students by promising them high course grades "as some few others might have done".
However, I do not believe in the reliability of the evaluations of all the students in a given course and at some university levels. You cannot trust the 1st year university level to be "scientific" enough. With little effort, 10 top students in the 3rd & 4th level may be asked to evaluate their teachers.
When a teacher's grades are > 3.5, there is usually no further comment. If the lecturer gets < 3.5, then a note is sent to him/her to try to improve.
