A number of samples from Russia were constantly far too old compared to C-14 ages. The samples were X-rayed at the border crossings several times before entering the lab for age measurements. I guess x-raying should have no effect but would like to have a firm confirmation on this from experts.

This study (Article Measurement of absorbed doses from X-ray baggage examination...
) shows that the absorbed dose in glass dosimeters at various airports was in the order of tens of μGy. Since the average dose rate in buried quartz and feldspar grains is 1-3 mGy per year, this is negligible. Too old OSL ages are common, especially in the case of rapidly accumulated deposits. The most likely cause of overestimated ages is incomplete bleaching.
