Recently, I've been working on a research relating to the effect of COVID 19 on the economy of Bangladesh. I am confused a bit about measuring domestic consumption. I mean, what are the determinant to show the present status of domestic consumption in Bangladesh?
I think, COVID-19 would have detrimental effects on the domestic consumption of Bangladesh. Because the continuous lock-down has caused a significant decline in the income from one side, and created huge impediment in the supply chain from the other side.
I think, COVID-19 would have great effects on the domestic consumption of Bangladesh. Because, Bangladesh is fully dependent on the forign country. So the continuous lock down already hampered different sector. The export oriented sector are facing huge losses now. Our government earn huge remittance from those peple working foreign country, The internal business is also hampering. So not only Bangladesh but Whole world will face great crisis after this pandemic COVID 19.
May be factors affecting GDP and GNP could give idea abiut deteminents of domestic consumption.
If you are conducting a household survey then you can compare amount of money expenditure during lockdown and before lockdown for the supply chain. You can also go by amount of items purchased
Well, pandemics like COVID-19 will always have an impact in any countries economy. Likewise our economy (Bangladesh- BD) will be affected but not for sure to be a full time disastrous one. We have entered the podium of E-commerce long ago and according to ILO our economy is a labor intensive one while most of them work in the Agricultural industries. So the domestic consumption will gradually adjust after a sudden fall . Now to measure such thing (domestic consumption) we may use the number of newly registered eCommerce consumers, spending behaviors and tendencies to save, number of new eCommerce websites, Facebook pages, Mostly advertised products in these sites in these days to narrow down the probable proxy variables for defining our determining factors of domestic consumption.
