The Internet of Vehicle (IoV) as integrated part of Vehicle Ad hoc Network (VANET) connecting many heterogeneous vehicle sensors.
Cloud computing is used to process and store the big data of IoV. Given long distance between the IoV's and cloud triggers data traffic delays. Plus, the vehicle mobility contributes to data transmission complexity.
IoV is a subset of IOT.. Any cloud technology used for IOT can also be used by IoV.. The end product is providing solution to the dashboard of the vehicle's owner. Moreso, the IOT technology basically uses the information generated from the vehicle's usage.. The important info to get is the kind of technology deployed by the vehicle manufacturer and whether that technology can be supported by the cloud space you go for..
@ Okpala, Please, there is noting like IOT. The correct syntax is Internet of Things (IoT). I completely disagree with you on the explanations you highlighted. First, you cannot use cloud technology with IoT except when there is a Fog device/layer in place. Second, IoT simply deals with the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances and other objects embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity which enables these objects to connect and exchange data ubiquitously.
Now, IoV is the fusion of three networks viz: an inter-vehicle network, an intra-vehicle network, and vehicular mobile Internet. In principle, it is a large-scale distributed system for wireless communication and information exchange between vehicle, road, human and internet based on established IP communication protocols and data interaction standards(such as IEEE 802.11p WAVE standard, and cellular tech., e.g 4/5G). Such network integration supports intelligent traffic management, intelligent dynamic information service, and intelligent vehicle control. Hence, it is an application of IoT, and not a subset as you highlighted. This is found only in intelligent transportation system (ITS). IoT, VoI, Internet of Energy (IoE), etc are all subsystems of Edge computing (i.e. an approach of optimizing cloud computing systems by eradicating data processing from the cloud and performing it at the network edge, much nearer to the source of data. This in turn can help to streamline the flow of local traffic to a cloud server as well as enable data to be analyzed in real-time within the edge devices themselves.
Finally, the technology domain that can be used to process data generated by Vehicle Ad hoc Networks is Big data Analytics (BDA). By applying BDA to VANET, you can obtain very useful insight from a huge volume (amount) of real-time operational data (predictive analytics).
