I am trying to carve a Thesis topic on the said question. in my literature reviews i have come across education, economic, institutional etc factors which influence farmers adoption of CSA agriculture techniques but the literature is almost silent gender and cultural dimensions. I would be glad if anyone could share their ideas in the issue, thank you.
Few examples
Gender -
1. In many places women play vital role in selection of variety, crops and also play most important role in kitchen gardening. They have gathered experience over the years, tradition in selecting and conserving cultivars/varieties as well as breeds of animals suited to their climate. So, they have important role.
2. In extreme weather aberration too women play vital role in selection of crop, varieties suited to the particular situation.
3. Women play important role in selection and conservation of local germplasm suited to the locality based on climate of the area.
4. Male farmers play most important role in tillage and they select exact equipment suitable to their locality, microclimate of his farm.
5. Male farmers also play vital role in protecting their crops from various climatic factors like rain shelter, storage etc.
Tradition -
The culture and tradition paly all the roles mentioned above as well as give guidance what to do when -
1. In NE India Particularly Assam we have a tradition to transplant banana in April with main festival which is same for scientific method too.
2. In also advocate about nutrition and consumption of certain food in particular time of the year as a tradition. In December-January (cold months)we traditionally consume Yam in certain festivals which helps digestion.
3. There are certain tradition to protect fruit plants, planting of medicinal plants like basil, turmeric which have medicinal properties and boost up immunity of the human.
Gender
According to a study by Marther Ngigi, men and women have different adaptive capacities to climate change. The adaptation to climate change is closely intertwined with wives’ and husbands’ roles and responsibilities in the household. Although it may seem that husbands have more access to extension agents, access to information on climate change, have higher control over assets and decision making, wives still have more control of household food production and to some extent, the method used --such as selection of crop variety and type because of their traditional role of food provision and marketing (in the case of commercial farming).

Gender mainstreaming. Female farmers are key to its success as they are more concerned about household food security in many small holder and rural farms. Most males are out to find off-farm jobs and are not around farm in many cases. I recommend @ Malcolm Durosaye. Thank you.
