How does FTA card compare with regular Whatman's paper for long term storage of blood spots?

We store blood spots from endangered cockatoos for long term storage of DNA for potential future testing. We have been using FTA card which is then stored in a freezer (-20C or -80C if we have room) but FTA card is very expensive.

Does anyone know if storing frozen on regular Whatman's paper would have comparable storage times?
