Can anyone suggests me the pathway/mechanism involved in cytokine mediated neuro-inflammation (specially due to microglial activation) and neuroinflammation leading to depression (mechanism)? How cytokine activation mediates the pathway? Or suggest to me some good references.

I have read a lot of papers about that, but in my case I work with neuropathic pain, so i`m going to ask your question related with pain. In pain microglia is activated through purinergic receptors activation by citokines in periphery and ATP in central system. In CNS, the microglia have macrophagues activity and once actived, can activate astrocites (other kind of glial cell) and it produces Glutamate imbalance, so it could be the cause of depression in CNS. On the other hand, microglia produce an inversion of GABAergic currents in dorsal horn proyect to the brain and provoke hypersensibility and mechanic allodinia, therefore a lot of pain. So in this case you have Glutamate and GABA imbalance, and in consecuence you can find depression, which is a symptom of neuropathic pain.
