At relay where Tx and Rx operate at different frequencies, do we not require to demodulate/decode the received signal to map it further at different frequency?
I am amused if we can really achieve ideal Amplify and Forward relaying in mixed or hybrid communication such as Rf-FSO or FSO-VL or PLC-VLC?
Right Neeraj, same are my thoughts. Irrespective of being best, my point is DF is only feasible. Let us look for some comments from experts.
I think amplify-and-forward cannot be applied when working at different frequencies. The applicable technique is decode-and-forward.
In my view demodulate-and-forward (DemF) can be another option. It is unlike decode-and-forwad (DF) in which the symbols needs to be decoded. Open for comments.
Agree Prabhat. However, in most literature DemF is considered to be AF. In such case the incoming symbols are first demodulated, frequency translated and then amplified with a fixed or variable gain amplifier.
In RF-FSO amplify-forward relaying scenario, It can be solved with up-converting the received signal to intended frequency (without demodulating it) in the relay.
