How do you see the term "energy management" from sustainable energy point of view? And what should actually be done in the case of Hybrid energy systems to efficiently utilize our energy? What are the control mechanisms: soft-ware (algorithm), hardware (hardware configurations) etc?
The need for a sustainable energy supply is becoming more important with declining fossil energy resources, environmental pollution and climate change. Energy Management will contribute to the promotion of renewable energy sources in countries, especially developing countries, in tropics and subtropics via a holistic renewable energy management concept.
-understanding the global energy supply systems and their interrelationship with the environmental problems
-evaluating the renewable energy resource potential for different resources and sites
-analyzing the current technologies used for these resources conversion to useful energy
-analyzing the economics of these conversion methods at micro- and macro-economic levels

planning and managing of renewable energy projects
above all awareness can solve the solutions. So Education on sustainable will have to implement and start in the society. how they are affected by their own creation problem. Even Educated society does not know, how they will manage their energy in urban and rural area. SO at first spread education for awareness. As Developing country Economic condition will come as well as.
above all, the controller is very important for the energy management. for example the voltage stability of the common bus. the regulation of the power should be completed by the soft-ware, which involved in energy management in my opinion.
In my opinion the term energy management should be within of sustainable energy. Both terms are very important and inseparable, despite its different concepts.
I depends on you are taking about. I belive that one of the concepts of "energy management "is to get the highest possible result from a unit of energy produced at a lower price as possible.

Energy management is the management of how one deals with the production/generation of energy versus its consumption/use. These two are rarely equal to one another and there are challenges in ensuring that these do match in the best way possible. When one starts to include the sustainable aspect, then I think the focus on efficiency of this process should improve significantly, not to mention that the generation should probably also be sustainable generation (no fossil fuels).
However, efficiency at this level, relates to getting a better understanding of the actual demands and generation and matching these, possibly with the use of storage. Additionally, one needs to learn to look at the efficiency of the full system from start till end, rather than the efficiency of a single component within that system. For example, in many cases heat and electrical are required and generated, but they are normally treated as completely separate, while there can be significant benefits in looking at them as a combined requirement and generation. Unfortunately, with regards to the latter, I have seen little to no work, and definitely no commercial products, and this is a space where urgent work is required. Energy management is about its wise use in both production ( supply) and consumption ( demand) process. Thus it is also about achieving energy conservation behavior to overcome the over consumption likely to result from rebound effects of prevailing energy efficiency goal as one of the dominant strategies for ensuring energy security.
I would be very careful with both formulations since both of them are mostly the results of a political and administrative activities, I heard many times both terms used to describe renewable initiatives which are completely against the first and second laws of thermodynamics :). In my opinion, for energy engineers both therms should mean: be aware of energy flow and use it as much as it is necessary to keep satisfactory live level.
In principle nothing of the contributions, however different is wrong. Anyway there still remains no clear recommendation what can you do for solving practical problems. The first step is to define the system that should be controlled by the energy management. The practical start from an industrial point is to use the standard ISO 50001. This standard is agreed to be a common base within further standardization, however some improvements seem to be necessary. We are now preparing a guide how to implement energy efficiency within future standards within the Advisory Committee Energy Efficiency (ACEE) of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
A current challenge is that system considerations in the past were mainly focused on the supply of alltime available heat as technical primary energy (easy to be generated by fossil or nuclear fuel) and that the new sustainable energy supply is based on fluctuating electrical work. For the evaluation of the system so we need two main ideas: a) to define the system, b) to understand the devaluation of the supplied enery from the scientific/technical side and additionaly c) the economic impact of the different possible technical options (investment and operation cost). The classic approach is just based on the first law of thermodynamics this is just bookkeeping of energy flows. Chemical industry developed a more advanced evaluation based on the second law of thermodynamics already more than 30 years ago. This is based on the devaluation of the thermodynamic potential expressed as exergy (reference state is ambient temperature). So one can easily control the irreversible losses within the system during design and operation.
Because irreversible losses can be caused by two reasons by the system design (architecture) itself and by the behavior of the components (friction, heat loss etc) this difference can be used for further improvement. Because it is possible to design the system freely it is it is possible to find allways the best possible system architecture by organizing the system design following a reversible (ideal) reference process (famous example: hybrid car). So the irreversible entropy production can be also exactly identified including possible improvements in design and operation.
Because the system definition is free the described system can be a plant, a vehicle or even a complete area. Now we can see the two important pillars as the base of energy management: a) clear definition systems (important system borders) of system itself and subsystems and components, b) using irreversible entropy production of the system as a refernce for sustainability (needed to be introduced in standards).

What a contribution dear researchers! I have already learnt a lot from your explanation though still not clear on the software and hard ware improvements/development to to smoothly do the energy management and the practical management technics we use these days with technology at hand.
Actually as my understanding 'energy management" can be seen from different perspectives and also can be solved in many different approaches. For energy sustainability, effective management of the system's energy is the key. Good management needs our momentary knowledge of demand and supply and resource supply including system behavior (dynamics), loss type (as mentioned some losses are unavoidable or irreversible), but we can work on loss types that can be improved for further system efficiency.

When you mention hardware or hybrid energy systems, do you mean something similar to mini-grids? For example, a system designed to provide the electrical needs of a village or isolated location.
In mini-grids, there are many hardware configuration options. There will always be an energy management system that will control the flow of energy, but your generation sources may include solar, wind, batteries, diesel generators or similar technologies. A basic system will have little or no software beyond power management. The software should manage the behaviour of the hardware - such as when to charge batteries with solar, or when to discharge, limiting the discharge to appropriate rates and levels. More sophisticated software will take into account daily demand patterns and manage supply to meet demand across the day.
To efficiently utilize the energy, energy efficiency also needs to be considered. This is best considered early in the design process, as the layout, size and type of equipment all influence how much energy will be needed.

When I say hardware, it is the device (microprocessor/micro-controller) that help us control the different aspects of the system like battery charging, load priority decision, generator switch on/off etc. It is obvious the software/algorithm plays an important role in controlling the system in general including management of the energy flow.
