At the moment AI can't replace teachers. It makes mistakes in the output. On the other hand, even if it is flawless, will it be attractive for humans to spend time talking to it or learning with it? What if the creators of AI combine different elements such as voice, speech, text, image, etc. If AI becomes so elaborate can a teacher compete with it and how will the teacher's role change
I think that online foreign language teaching softwares are already replacing Foreign language teacher in some ways. Despite these apps are less interesting for most of the students, the fact that they are available anywhere and at any hour is a competitive advantage. I would even add the fact that in some countries it is almost impossible to find teachers that are native speakers of a given language, and this makes language apps essential. Technology is ubiquitous, humans a bit less..
In the near future, I personally see foreign language teachers using AI tools more often on a daily basis to automate manual tasks.
The more I study the potential of AI, the more I believe that foreign language teachers will take observer's role - "watcher" or "monitor." They will be responsible for monitoring the situation, identifying potential risks or dangers, and taking appropriate actions to maintain educational route, while students will be utilising AI tools.
