There is a simple technique that puts a Bushnell Haas mineral medium (BH), and the crude oil as the sole source of carbon and DCPIP as the target which is blue and becomes lilac to the intensity of biodegradation. One can vary the carbon source concentration to check how the micro-organism can degrade. The plates used are ELISA microplates. This is a qualitative test and is used to select the most susceptible species to the biodegradation process.
Prof Kenneth sorry i am using three protozoan isolates mainly trachelophyllum, Aspidicas and Paranema this is because a lot of work has been done in bacteria or fungi or algae but none in protozoa regarding biodegradation. These species had in the past shown to have remove phosphate or nitrates and heavy metals in wastewater all in our laboratory and publications are already there
