Hi colleagues,
I am conducting a motion sickness study using a rotating chair, and I want to measure some basic parameters during the exposure. I will use a holter for heart rate and a blood pressure monitor for blood pressure.
Can anyone suggest which method, and more importantly, which hardware to use to measure temperature, amount of sweat and amount of salivation?
For all these parameters, I need a constant measurement (like the holter), so I can correlate them to motion sickness severity symptoms. I suppose that salivation is the most difficult one.

We use Biopac physiological monitor to measure the skin temporature and skin conductance (indirect measure for sweat). We have no idear how to measure salivation amount, but you can test the sodium and protein concentration in salivation for instead.

We use a small device I-330 C2 +12ch from J&J Engineering Company (http://www.jjengineering.com/C12.htm) to measure Skin resistance and skin temperature. This device reliably records both parameters. It uses 4 AA battery, does not have internal memory to collect data, and works with a laptop.

Biopac has numerous add-ons to its system. GSV is a measure of sweat in a sense but not the total amount of sweat produced- that would be more difficult. I am sure they have a skin temperature device as well.
Yes, Biopac is a good choice if you can afford it. A very important consideration will be your stimulus. Physio measures are very sensitive to motion artifacts, so if you are doing Coriolis cross-coupling to get people sick, the head movements may affect the measures. Same goes for the body shifting during off-vertical rotation. Heart rate will always come through, but weaker signals sometimes get messed up. Even automated blood pressure systems can be affected by body motion and tensing. Salivation makes sense as a measure but there is less reason to measure the other things in this situation.
