Let me know first which toolkit / SDK are you going to use? Regarding your URLs I guess that you're using some Microsoft technologies.

I'm writing at the moment the system for the gait analysis using 4 Kinect sensors simultaneously grabbing the skeleton streams so can help you on that but first need to know if you're writing your own software in C#/C++ or are you going to connect Kinect sensors to some other software. I do work in C# and Kinect SDK 1.8 - if it sounds like you're in, let me know, I'll present you how to do it.

Dear Andrea - is sound very close to my technology choice so here it is what I've done so far (this is just a part of the project so it may be non-cohesive).

Assuming you have some user interface written in WPF, reference Microsoft.Kinect.Toolkit namespace (also .Controls and .Interaction) then put two KinectSensorChooserUI controls. Once you start your solution the control will appear and try to connect to the sensors. To handle the fact of the connection, you need to write the appropriate event handler attached to the KinectSensorChooser, the underlying of the KinectSensorChooserUI control that will be triggered once the control finds and successfully communicates with the sensor.

Mind the fact that you need to name both KinectSensorChooserUI with different names to let you access them from the code behind (the sensorChooserUi1 and sensorChooserUi2 are the KinectSensorChooserUI names as referenced below).

In the code behind you need to declare:

private KinectSensorChooser sensorChooser1;

private KinectSensorChooser sensorChooser2;

private KinectSensor kinect1;

private KinectSensor kinect2;

and in the OnLoaded event of the WPF window you need to "bind" the variables above and the controls on the UI:

Once you have it, you also need the event handlers - KinectChanged:

The args bring you two important properties:

OldSensor and NewSensor.

OldSensor appears important if you "change" the sensor programmatically (which is not your case I guess) so you should focus just on NewSensor. This is the class that contains reference to the Kinect object so store it for feature reference, as above.

Then all you need to do is to subscribe to the events and fire kinect1.Start() to start receiving the streams.

I'm terribly sorry but I don't have experience here. I think the objects on C# should have their reflection in C++ as well (it shouldn't be far from C# to C++) so try to investigate the samples from Kinect Toolkit. Remember to connect Kinects to different ports (i.e. on other sides of your laptop, because I found that Laptops/Notebooks used to have low current on USBs so splitting Kinects across different USB controllers or using external, powered USB hub is reasonable and may be helpful on the hardware layer.
