I received three review reports for a work, and while two gave good recommendations with minor reviews suggested, the third reviewer saw nothing good in the work right from the topic. The comment given were all negative and some were really insulting. I was not expecting all nice reports, but putting his/her views across without being all arrogant about it would have been great. Now I have to submit a response to all reviewers comment and I am finding it hard to respond to the comments of this particular reviewer.
While trying to keep calm and answer every questions and comment of a reviewer, how do you respond to comments that appears to attack the person rather than the work itself?

Reviewer's comments should be objective and relevant to the paper written. Certainly, these comments should not be insulting. I think that you should answer only the negative reviews, since the positive reviews do not need an answer. It is suggested that you approach the journal's editor with this problem, and ask him to replace the insulting reviewer.
The responsibility of a reviewer is to provide comments that aid and improve the publication. I believe you have an option of responding to the comments as much as you can while indicating to the editors at the provided section your view and opinion of the reviewers. Another option is to write the editors regarding the reviewer and your views/reservations.
Every reviewer is entitled to his or her own opinion. No author should consider any comment from any reviewer insulting. This is because we live in a world where no one knows it all and knowing is in degrees. All we need to do is to locate what speaks to our papers in their comments for amelioration and move forward. The rejection of your paper by one reviewer does not mean other reviewers will reject it.
Thanks Omonijo. Picking what is important and moving on is just what I plan on doing. However, be aware that some reviewers literally attack persons rather than the work. Every work attracts comment, positive or negative. This comments should address the work to make it better and not the author.

Yes! But if that could not be obtained in some of the reviewers comments, never you be discouraged, because if you are discouraged, you will never make any progress in life. Never mind who is condemning you, but keep on correcting your mistakes, you will be surprised to see one of the persons who had condemned you and your work coming to bow down for your tomorrow.
If one journal reject your paper, work on it and send it to another journal. I am sure you will come across a God fearing one who is committed to raising young scholars. From my experience, there are some terrible editors, their mission is to destroy your academic career and not to correct you. When you come across such persons, you should not waste time in dealing with them: ignore them like a keg of toxic waste.
In academia, no one knows it all. A good academic looks at papers and picks what can be built upon in them. His next advice will be centered on how to remove those things that are not relevant and encourage you to build on the strongest points in them.

I have just experienced this. Rather shocking but thanks to Douglas Omoregie Aghimien for the posting this question here. Thanks to everyone that has provided a response. I have an idea of what to do next.

Reviewers that add insulting comments to their review are probably not focusing on what should be added or corrected in the paper under review. Sometimes, however, an insult is a matter of cultural interpretation, and what seems to the reviewer a legitimate comment could be understood by the author as an insult.
