In fact, some courage and networking may sort such concerns out in the first place.

Only one option if you want to do "science":

Leave your "country" as it does not do anything for you- somewhere little "better" as no where is that great these days- and go back when you are well trained and can manage with all limtations or love your country!

Majority do not do it, and stay in their respective countries and still enjoy life.

Essam - it depends on so many constructs and contexts. For many established journals (at the moment) you do not need fundings - just good quality research outcomes. That might be part of the problem that you refer to in terms of not being able to access databases, apply for international funding etc.

You are not alone - and it often depends on topic, discipline etc. I find it equally as hard to secure research funding for a vast variety of reasons and I am i a developed country. It's highly competitive!!

There is always theoretical research for those who are able to pursue it in their own dime.

I face this problem all the time! I try to get external funding, not counting on the national, in order to make high quality research. For example, even the travelling for some EU projects without advance payment could be done only if we use personal funding. Here, the major question is how we could be competitive - as the basic conditions (financial support) to make research are not comparable in general ;-) The institution I work in is the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) - the major research institution in my country, also with excellent prestige abroad. The state is not providing enough funding - the salaries of many of the scientists are close to the minimum wage, no additional funding for networking or research. We do our research because we apply for external funding.

I’d like to echo many of the previous answers. Even in the US, noone is knocking down your door to provide research funding. There is quite a bit of prejudice toward “research centers”. Grant writing seminars are a good way to become familiar with foundations that fund international research and develop the skills needed to compete for these funding sources. You may need to travel to network but you don’t need to move to do quality research. If you are passionate about your country and peopl, stay and keep working hard. If not you, then who?

Regarding publication fees:

1. You may qualify for a waiver of publication fee depending on the country where you are based. This should be checked for each journal separately.

2. In many cases, you do not have to pay any fees if you agree that your article is NOT published open access but of course you should check each journal specifically for that.

Note that many Springer journals let you share your article via ReadCube so that it can be read by anyone (but cannot be downloaded if one has no valid subscription) who has a sufficiently modern browser to handle enhanced PDF; for example the published version of my recent article Integrable (3+1)-dimensional systems with rational Lax pairs can be read in this way here: http://rdcu.be/Dkwh .

This can be a reasonable substitute for open access (of course, if you are NOT officially required to publish open access by, say, your university or your grant agency), but again you should check this for each journal separately whether this feature is available for it; see also https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sharedit for details.

3. In some cases there is a middle way, occasionally referred to as self-archiving or green open access. Eeven if you publish your article NOT in open access mode some journals allow posting the preprint version of your article (roughly speaking, the one without the journal formatting and, in some cases, prior to taking into account the referees' comments ) at your web page or noncommercial repositories like arXiv.org but you should check very carefully what does a specific journal allow and what do they mean by a preprint.

That is very challenging. I do not think we have sustainable sources of funding for researches in developing countries, what we have is haphazard attempt for two or three years survivor of any research project. Researchers in developing countries should use each and every opportunity to establish long term funding stream including "sink funds" for 20 or more years so that the next generation of researchers do not find themselves in our situation. For the time being, only short term funding opportunities can be accessed.

Don't give up. Reduce the Scale and continue funding.

Developing countries face all sorts of problems. These problems can be split into two categories.  These are problems that the countries face because they are developing and problems that they face on the road to becoming developed.
