Your research proposal should be similar to your paper except that instead of a conclusion you need to focus on what great things you hope to find and/or their implications. Therefore, it should include an analysis of the problem you are addressing and a literature review supporting the questions or hypotheses you hope to address. When I was a student, I wasn't allowed to conduct research until the proposal was accepted, but if you have been able to do any research, even a small pilot study, you can include that. You should be able to turn your proposal into a paper once you finished collecting your data.
