Here is what we do. We ask all instructors to include the following in their syllabi:
(1) Program's Core Student Learning Outcomes
(2) CEPH Program Competencies (whereas the CEPH is our accrediting body)
(3) CEPH Concentration Competencies
(4) Performance-Based Objectives Linked to Course Activities
(5) Description of how Assessment of Student Learning Will be Assured
At the Program level, we create a chart of the Competencies and Student Learning Outcomes and determine if there are gaps in the program that need to be covered.
Since design is very pragmatic every objective has an exercise linked to it.
if there are several objectives then a clubbed exercise indicating several outcomes is designed. From the result the students deduces the objective and in future uses this learning to apply to unfamiliar situations
