I attach the catalog data header to make things clear. From this catalog data I want to specifically relocate every 'good' events using hypoDD at a certain depth target (let say 2-4 kms below datum).
Before applying a more refined earthquake location technique, you can perform a selection based on a preliminary location quality expressed by RMS (root mean square) of residual, azimuthal gap, errors.
HYPODD provides, among others, the root mean square (RMS) of residuals when you run the earthquake data. Usually RMS in portable short network of seismographs you can consider as good numbers to be lower than 0.5-0.6. For a national network this can be lower than 0.7-0.8. In any case, for reliable results, RMS must be lower than 1.0
In the example you posted the hypocenter errors are given. If these values are sensible you can use this a a measure of the hypocenter quality.
