I have a validated tool in English ( the supportive care needs survey-short form 36) and I want to know if I can use this tool in Arabic population or should I develop a new questionnaire
the question in my mind
is it culturally appropriate? and I know it doesn't cover all the aspect of the domains in an existing framework. So, I wonder if I can create a new tool that covers all the domains in a framework
please help me decide if i design my research around developing new tool or using the available tools ?
I would suggest you run it by an initial source in the target population. Receive their feedback and adjust as necessary. I would also make sure you explain that you did so in the methods—I think reviewers would be impressed by your work to ensure cultural sensitivity
once you modify the questionnaire according to your cultural concerns, you should assess the validity and reliability of modified tool by including a small part of you study population.
