I'm planning to collect solid waste samples in a dump yard to categorize the solid waste. I would like some advice about recommended techniques. I’m really looking to find out what you’d consider to be the most efficient method as cost and time are limiting factors.

If you want to investigate the characteristics of the waste arriving to the disposal site, first you can determine the amount of vehicles arriving to the site. Then you can choose on day 1 a percentage of those trucks and out of it to take a sample. You can do this for a whole week, or if the time and money are constraints, you do it before and after the weekend and some day in between. But you have to keep in mind that waste characteristics is affected by holidays, rainy or dry season, and alike.

if you want to ascertain based on generation rate at different wards of a locality morning and evening will be alright so that you know even hourly variation which may help you to decide locally to groups and individuals the disposal methods.
Waste may collected during all the seven days because of people consumption rate may differ from weekend and remaining days. By applying the quarterly method to obtain the sample and make it convenient size using sheerders then grind it for characteristics.
