How do we measure Awareness

Given the eventual emulation of the whole brain, How will we be able to test it's awareness to prove that it is a perfect emulation?

Evidence seems to suggest that the human brain kludges this estimation by making assumptions. So how are we going to meet this requirement scientifically.

Given that there is a range of possible states of awareness should we be using a scale of awareness to evaluate them?
