Recently, people investigate both of RP and DJ perovskite in order to improve both of performance and stability. However, lot of them state the kind of low-dimensional perovskite family by the organic spacer.
If the organic spacer has mono-ammonium it will be an RP type, if it has diammonium in both of the end of the alkyl chain, it will be a DJ.
If we have a new compounds with zwitterion like criteria, and it can make a low-dimensional perovskite, how we can determine the type of low-dimensional perovskite?

The difference between Ruddlesden-Popper and Dion-Jacobson phase is amount of the interlayer cations per layer. General formula of the Ruddlesden-Popper phase is M2[A(n-1)BnO(3n+1)] and that of Dion-Jacobson phase M[A(n-1)BnO(3n+1)] (n representing the thickness of perovskite slab).

Based on the general formula, we can see clearly that the different of RD and DJ is in the amount of cation spacer ("M") with 1 is DJ, and 2 for the RP.
However, if I already get the film of perovskite, can we measure with any measurement to distinguish either of DJ or RP family?

You have to find out what crystal structure your perovskite has. Ideally, you would grow a crystal (not a thin-film), so you can do single-crystal diffraction. The space group symmetry could tell you already if you are looking at RP or DJ (i believe an n-glide plane perpendicular to c indicates RP), but you should solve the crystal structure anyway.
You might be able to roughly estimate how many spacer cations you have depending on the c lattice parameter, the thickness of perovskite slab n and the thickness of a single perovskite slab. But this approach would give you just an initial guess and you cannot be certain.

Thus the advanced diffraction analysis will always be needed to determine either JD or RP structure.
