I am working on the design of a bioethanol from corn plant. I am supposed to carry out the energy balance calculations but I am unable to discern the method to calculate the enthalpy of corn, its mash, etc.
If the carbohydrate, protein, and fat content of the corn or corn products is known, then perhaps the standard values of 9 kcal/gm for fat, 4 kcal/gm for carbohydrate, and 5.65 kcal/gm for protein may be helpful. (When used as food the calorific value of protein is given as 4 kcal/gm, but energy is lost in urea the waste product of protein metabolism. This loss need not occur if corn or corn products are used as fuel.)
