There are so many answers; since neither is exactly a coherent theoretical system. One one hand both families of theories are based on internal states. Theories of this type are often set against behaviourist conceptions and traced back to William James (utilitarianism) and philosophy. However, this stream has been cross fertilized by european thinking (gestalt, structuralist, freudian, etc...) so that it cannot be said to have one root. On the other hand, there is a shared concept of power and a sociology of science. Consider Seligman's original analysis of how to reverse learned helplessness.
Finally, it is worth considering the echo of 60's and 70s humanist movement in psychology. The humanist critique of behaviourism gave support to developing cognitive theories as a separate structure (even if most of it reads as behaviourism light..) on the grounds that this would help develop response to real world problems and help science serve the public interest. Ironic! But very similar rhetoric was present in the early pp documents.
Because I haven't had the course Positive Psychology yet, I need some time to research my answer so that I can write intelligently about your question. However, looking at your chosen topics, you very well might be ahead of me.
Still, I will do some research into your question & get back to you w/the info I find.

P.S. These two links are all I was able to find w/i in these few days. Although the school frowns on it, you might try Google Scholar. Just be sure the articles are peer reviewed. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Some of the same guys (yes, all guys unfortunately) developed "positive psychology," but frankly psychology was truly begun in the 1940"s with the military, more than anywhere else, and it was for the discovery of strengths, not necessarily weaknesses or psychopathology.
The acquisition and cognitive development (learning) should be filtered and internalized in a positive way. The learner will be to develop with positive self-acceptance and positive image in self-realization processes, and efficient cognition and positive self-image will symbiosis of self-construction and positive cognitive development and actively reorganized.
