I have worked on MMA embedded microtome sections, but need some information about the alternatives sectioning techniques:
I have looked up both of them but can not find any useful information o how the technique works and which pitfalls it has.
I have already found that the Exakt method is used a lot in dental and implant research and that sections below 20 microns are readily impossible.
On the point contact technique I did not find any usefull explaining information.

i have been working on hard tissue for a long time most of my expertise is on teeth but i also worked on bone .
we have been using two machines one is old and is called the Gilling Hammco machine and they still use it in my oral pathology department (see picture below) i moved from the Gilling Hammco machine to the isomet machine .we usually embed the specimen in methyle meth acrylate (MMA) clear using a embedding wax plastic boxes (which are used for regular paraffin sectioning we use them to fill them with epoxy and place the teeth or bone in the way we want to be sectioned .
once the MMA hardens we remove the plastic cover and now we have a cube of MM embedded inside it the tooth or bone.
using the Isomet machine we can cut sections thickness of almost 7 microns .(i have enclosed a sample here also of a sectioned tooth about 7 microns thick.
