For the last couple of decades, technology-enhanced learning is something that received recent attention, especially in the area of educational research.

In recent times, it has become increasingly important for educators from all over the world to explore the role that information technologies (e.g. social media, social networking sites) play in the educational context.

However, despite the tremendous potential these new technologies could play in higher education settings, I believe that the majority of educators still don't acknowledge their full potential and often are not inclined to explore it inside the classroom.

Furthermore, I think that educators and lecturers are still using ICTs strictly as a tool for supporting the personal guidance provided by a face-to-face teacher.

New information technologies don't fundamentally change education. But they do make it easier to do more than just give lectures and set exams. As an example, I have about 80 students this semester who read materials and watch videos online, then do an automated quiz to check they have the basics. The students then discuss the topics briefly in an online forum, and provide peer feedback and grade each other. The students then do an assignment, and again give each other feedback and a grade. How new technology changes the education process at universities - well, first it depends on what kind of university ornstitution we are talking about.

Some smaller institutions that want to survive or expand can use new technologies early to gain a competitive advantage in reaching new categories of students. They often become early and active adopters.

At larger universities, the process of technology implementation in mainstream teaching and learning is often more slow, aimed at using new technology mostly a) to appear modern and up-to-date,

b) to do research on own use of new technology,

c) to use new technology to appear politically correct, etc.

There are exceptions or course.

These larger universities are first often just handling new technology, not really embracing it.

But, one important factor is when later new technology is becoming part of everyones life. Students use new technology just to handle their learning tasks, and thereby changes the way the university works as well. One example: The classrooms do not function as earlier when communication through classroom walls are possible by use of personal communication devices. if a lecture is missed there is often no big trouble of finding another one, etc.

Some universities develop e-learning because it complements the traditionally implemented education process. E-learning is associated mainly with a student whose time for education is limited due to professional work. However, e-learning is not the only application of information technology in education processes. The first applications of information technology in some companies and banks appear already in the 1960s. Then, successively, computers go to schools. However, it was then the third technological revolution based on the development of computer science. The current technological revolution described as Industry 4.0 is determined by the development of the following advanced information processing technologies: Big Data database technologies, cloud computing, machine learning, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, Business Intelligence and other advanced data mining technologies. I believe that with each subsequent year there will be a growing number of types of applications of various advanced information processing technologies in education processes. This is necessary if education is not to be left behind by technological progress.

Therefore, nowadays, in the age of the technological revolution described as the 4.0 industry, new teaching concepts are being defined as education 4.0. In addition, in a knowledge-based economy, important areas of knowledge and technologies that are developed include primarily the development of data processing analytics in Business Intelligence enterprises, development of life science technologies, biotechnology, ecological and energy innovations, medical intelligence, etc. Based on the development of new solutions Technological processes in recent years have dynamically developed, inter alia, processes of innovatively organized analyzes of large collections of information collected in Big Data database systems. In some universities, Big Data database systems are built, which are used in educational processes, in scientific research carried out by students who write diploma theses, and by researchers and research and teaching staff employed in the university who conduct research involving the processing of large collections of information originating, among others, or mainly from the Internet.

In accordance with the above, more and more possibilities of implementing information technology, Internet and advanced data processing in education processes arise. Developments in terms of technology have an outstanding impact on the perceptions of education. Unlike, the traditional education which in the past was limited solely to textbooks nowadays numerous technical tools allow access to nearly every topic desired by an individual. It is the mind set of the educators that needs to be changed towards utilising new technological resources in educational process as well as tailoring study materials to individual preferences of students.

With the rapid advancement of information technology tools, learning beyond the classroom has become preferred mode of learning for its convenience and flexibility. As such, educators now have to write more to teach and learners have to read more to learn.

Technology is a sophisticated and beneficial mean to engage learners in education. Benefits of integrating technology into learning environment may include motivate students effectively, enhance interactions between learners and educators, allow students to autonomously resolve problems.
