Meladie Cazar--One effective way of conducting meaningful instructional supervision is to pair it with skill-based professional development. School administrators can 1) survey faculty for areas in which they would like to improve their instruction, 2) use data from the last supervision cycle to isolate areas for improvement, and/or 3) choose research-based training related to the school's supervision model. It's best to focus professional development on specific areas of instruction like writing meaningful assessment; managing the classroom environment; using productive questioning; creating effective group activities; planning rigorous lessons; and designing curriculum. These should be the same areas that are evaluated through supervision.
