I conducted factor analysis in Mplus to examine the suitability of an instrument, derive factors, and derive factor scores. I used Mplus to output factor score coefficients and determinacies.
My question is, when I want to apply that analysis to a new sample, and calculate new factor scores for the new sample, how do I do so? From various hints I've picked up by googling, I understand that you can multiply the coefficients by standardized item values and then sum them for each factor. However, I can find no further explanation or reference work that explains this process. So question 2 is, if this is the correct process, does anyone know of a citation or at least a good explanation available on the web?

I am not sure I understand the issue here.
Are you trying to save the factor scores?
Or the parameter estimates in the factor model?

If you want to produce factor scores for new sample, you must factor analyse again for new sample. Factor scores calculated for individuals. If you use item coefficients which obtained from different sample, your factor scores are not suitiable for new sample. The coeffiecients can be change for new sample. Briefly, to obtain factor scores for new sample, factor analyze for new sample.
