Can't talk about languages !!! I started machine level .
All I can say is pick a language , understand the constructs and download a complier for practice .
I agree with everyone's suggestion and i also think you have to have passion for it

Google Scratch programming is good for a start. A kind of programming that captures the attention of youngsters. Gently, other ones can come in once the interest is already developed
